POETRY...A few short lines. We think of poetry forced on us in school. Just the word alone makes me cringe...or at least used to. But what is poetry really? Poetry is much more. It can be succinct precision at the end of a pin. A single poem can say it all. Well performed, it is magic. And poetry isn't just words...It's all around us. Flashes of lightening in a night-time sky is poetic. Waves crashing on a rocky shore. Snow wind-whipped across a mountain summit. A flock of geese heading south. Kids playing tag. These are but a few examples of life in a forever ongoing poetic motion.Coming across a very simple and precise way of writing changed my view of poetry. "Haiku" is a traditional Japanese style using only three lines of 5-7-5 syllables. So things need to be simple and precise. Fewer words actually says more since the wording used and the crispness of the structure is strict and allows for no excess of blabbing on endlessly when less is the key message. Simplicity...the key to life itself. Many of the poems offered here are of the Haiku style . Some are of the "Waka" style, another Japanese form this time using 5-7-5-7-7 syllables. Others yet are laid down as they came, through the pen, and onto paper. All I know is that I didn't come up with them. They came through me.Enjoy these messages. Have a conversation with them. Play with them. Smile with them.
